An in-depth interview with Eric, Founder of Peacefood Cafe:

Why did you launch Peacefood and what was your goal?

I launched Peacefood 14 years ago. There weren’t many vegan restaurants around and I wanted to promote veganism and share this happy lifestyle with the world!

When did you go vegetarian/vegan and what inspired this lifestyle change?

25 years ago, I became a vegetarian and stopped drinking the same day! I wanted to look good and feel good, and I realized killing animals for food doesn’t make me feel good. I wanted to be a better person. I don’t want to disturb other beings from living their life. It’s about respect for all beings to live peacefully.

What do you hope your customers takeaway from their dining experience at Peacefood?

I want my customers to feel the love from the atmosphere of the restaurant. The food and décor adds to how I want people to feel when dining here, relaxed and inviting. The artwork is handpicked by me and my partner to show the essence of who we are, which is an eye for beauty. I went from being an antique dealer to vegan restaurant owner. An extreme shift in my career!

If you could only have 3 food items in your pantry to cook with, what would they be?

Ginger, soy sauce and avocado oil.

What easy cooking advice do you have for new vegans?

Good sauce is very important to spice up a meal. Prep sauces that you can put on anything you cooked. Be creative, lime, garlic, yogurt, herbs, seeds and miso. If you have good sauce and seasoning this really helps!

If you could communicate one message that would make the world a better place, what would that be?

Everybody should go within to find peace. When you have peace within yourself you find peace with others.
